A sweet NAB show

We recently returned from the NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada. For us NAB could not have gone better.

IceCream

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Right?

NAB 2023

The show was larger and seemed more interesting than last year, as more companies are traveling again after COVID. We found several vendors for the things we were looking for, and we even found a few things we didn't know we were looking for. Jialu's favorite find was the magician at the Venue booth, who had some cool card and coin tricks. Now we will need something like that when we exhibit at NAB.

Meetings and exhibits

We had several meetings with other companies we may be working with in the future, and also with companies we already know. We got some good pointers here. And we found some very promising vendors for control surfaces and other things we need for our cloud production system.

Matrox

One of the highlights was meeting with the Matrox team. They announced their Origin framework for asynchronous, resilient, and scalable video processing in the cloud. These concepts are similar to what we have been working on for the last few years, and we are excited to see that Matrox is promoting it. Until this point we were concerned that the industry may not be ready for this kind of architecture, but now we are more optimistic since a large company has gotten behind it.

Food

As someone who lived through the '70s, Mike insists on eating at the Peppermill at least once during NAB. This time we knew we were going to have ice cream, so we tried to minimize calorie intake until then. The sundae pictured above was the result. It was a good thing we had a long walk back to the hotel.

Another throwback is the roving photographer that wants to take your picture and sell it back to you. They give you the postcard with your picture on it for free.
